YOUR TAX RECEIPT

What Your Tax Receipt Is Worth In Ontario

Your receipt is based on what your vehicle is worth. We look at the year, make, model, mileage and condition, and can appraise your car ahead of pickup so you know the figure before you commit.

In Ontario the minimum receipt is $600. There is no maximum. If you have a higher-value vehicle, tell us on the form or over the phone and we’ll appraise it properly.

Your receipt arrives by email by the end of the month after we pick up the car. A car collected in March means a receipt by the end of April.

Paperwork In Ontario

In Ontario, the registered owner signs the seller’s signature line on the back of the vehicle ownership. Hand that and your keys to the tow driver at the time of pickup.

Take your licence plates off before we arrive. They belong to you, not the car, and you can reuse them.
You don’t need a safety certificate, an inspection, or an emissions test. We take the vehicle as it is.

Can’t find your ownership? Call 1-833-465-7227 before booking. Missing paperwork can usually be sorted out, and we’ll tell you exactly what you need.

Once the car is on our truck, your responsibility ends. You can cancel your insurance at that point. We handle the transfer with the Ministry.

Fill in the form or give us a call. We ask for the year, make, model, condition and where it’s parked. No photos needed. No inspection.

02

We book the tow

Free pickup between 24 and 72 hours after you agree to donate.

03

Your tax receipt arrives

By email. We offer mail if preferred.

WILL YOU TAKE MY CAR?

Almost Always, Yes.

We take cars that:

  • Are in good, running condition
  • Have body damage or rust
  • Don’t run
  • Have a dead battery or flat tires
  • Won’t pass a safety inspection
  • Have been sitting for years
  • Have high mileage
  • You inherited

As long as your car has tires and wheels, we’re good to go.

Give us a call first if:

  • You can’t find the ownership papers
  • There’s still a lien on the car
  • The car isn’t in your name
  • You’re outside the cities we serve

None of these is an automatic no. Most get sorted out on the phone.

Still not sure? Give us a call.

TESTIMONIAL

What Hamilton Donors Say

I cannot tell you how impressed I am by your Homeless Cars organisation. I have not experienced in the recent past such a professional, well organised response. Thank you for your helpfulness and thank you for presenting such a beautiful online listing. I would recommend you in a flash. Silly, I know, but I feel like my 14-year-old car which I loved, went to a good home!

No. Homeless Cars is a registered Canadian charitable foundation, so we cannot pay cash. You get a free tow and a tax receipt you can claim on your income tax return. Do I need to be there when you collect the car in Hamilton?

No. Leave the keys and the ownership in the glovebox and we’ll collect the vehicle without you. If you’d rather be present, tell us when you book and we’ll give you an approximate four-hour window.
