Car Donation: Expanding Meal Programs in Your Community

Did you know that one car donation can feed a meal to at least 150 people? Keep reading to learn how Homeless Cars is helping Out of the Cold DOUBLE their meals served this winter season and what you can do to support the initiative.

Food Insecurity is on the Rise

With the cold weather fast approaching, people experiencing food insecurity face additional challenges in meeting their basic food and housing needs.

Homeless Hub notes that hunger is an unfortunate reality for tens of thousands of Canadians each year. This including those with full-time low-income jobs, who make up 11.7% of Canada’s food bank patrons.

The rapid expansion of the low wage economy, coupled with an average inflation rate of 3.8% (October 2020 - October 2021) on Canadian food products resulted in the inability for households across Canada to attain the funds needed to secure permanent housing and food sources.

How is Homeless Cars Combatting Food Insecurity?

Through partnerships with charities across Hamilton, Toronto, Ottawa and Winnipeg, Homeless Cars has funded the equivalent of 180,000 meals or 60,000 shelter beds for those in need since 2020.

For a second year, Homeless Cars has partnered with Out of the Cold Hamilton to fund meal take away programs across the greater Hamilton area. Out of the Cold aims to double the number of meals served during the 2020-2021 winter season, using donations from Homeless Cars to support the most vulnerable people in your community.
