Who is The Calgary Food Bank?

The Calgary Food Bank is the first line of emergency food support for families and individuals facing crises. As the city’s main charitable food hub and the most accessible food bank in the area, they have the capacity to serve families, individuals and organizations to fight hunger at a local level.

Calgary Food Bank Services You Can Support

Community Liaison Program

Provides support, information and connection to partners who are working on the root causes of hunger

Emergency Food Hamper Program

Available to families and individuals who are experiencing food insecurity due to emergency situations

Food Link Program

Provides food and supplies to qualified organizations so they can focus their resources on important program delivery when dealing with the root causes of food insecurity

Weekends and More Program

For students to receive nutritious food hampers containing 2-3 days’ worth of food that discreetly fits into a backpack

Mobile Hampers Program

Provides food to communities that work with those experiencing homelessness in Calgary. Hampers provide short-term relief of hunger with easy-to-open, ready-to-eat, shelf stable food for a few days.

Welcome Home Program

Provides hampers containing pantry staples, cleaning supplies, and hygiene products to individuals and families transitioning into housing

Food Share Program

Rescues perishable food and redirects it to support local communities

Purchasing Power Program

Provides organizations an opportunity to buy bulk food at discount prices

Food Grants Program

Available for one-time events or for short-term use

Who is Alpha House Society?

Calgary Alpha House Society (Alpha House) provides a committed response to marginalized individuals experiencing alcohol or other substance dependency, living on the vulnerable Calgary streets. Following a continuum of care model with Shelter, Detox, Housing, and Outreach programs to address client needs regardless of their nature, Alpha House’s work positively impacts the Calgary community by providing support to vulnerable citizens.

 Alpha House Programs You Can Support

Detox Program

Provides residential care for people to safely withdraw from drugs in a medically supportive environment

Transitional Program

Helps move people safely into permanent housing or long-term drug treatment facilities

Housing Program

Includes two streams: Community and Permanent-Supportive. Combined, these programs provide housing with intensive support for nearly 400 individuals.

Outreach Program

Includes mobile response teams covering different areas and roles throughout the city: needle response, encampment, ambassador, and the downtown outreach addictions partnership (DOAP)

Shelter Program

Alpha House shelter seeks to provide short-term, crisis-oriented emergency shelter 24/7 for adults who are under the influence of alcohol or other drugs
