“New Year, New Me”: The Best Ways to Start off 2023
Prioritizing Self-Care
Prioritizing self-care can result in stress reduction, increased feelings of happiness, and more energy. All of which create a solid emotional foundation that allows you to feel better and do more in your day-to-day life.
The methods that would be most effective for you vary based on your specific needs, challenges, and stress reducers. According to Everyday Health, some of the top self-care methods you can implement in 2023 are:
Getting enough sleep (i.e. 7-8 hours a night).
Working out or simply increasing your daily movement.
Spending quality time with friends or family. This could include going for walks, playing board games, or cooking a meal together.
Practicing intuitive eating.
Relaxing with a book or audiobook.
Goal Setting
Goal setting is a great way to set yourself up for success. By creating goals that are specific, clear, and well-defined, you create measurable actions that are relevant to your lifelong pursuits.
Some common goals that people in Canada share going into 2023 include the following:
Waking up early and developing a morning routine.
Traveling more (tips for traveling on a budget can be found here).
Being more social. You can join local clubs, town/city Instagram or Facebook pages, or pencil in more in-person visits with your friends to accomplish this!
Paying off debt and starting to save for retirement (Check out these frugal tips!)
Budgeting better! See some budgeting tips here.
Giving Back to Your Community
Giving back to your community is a great way to support the continued growth of yourself and others. Some simple ways you can give back in 2023 include:
Volunteering with a local charity or not-for-profit. Check out some local opportunities here and here.
Donating used clothing, food, household supplies, or hygiene products to your favourite not-for-profit or food bank.
Helping charitable initiatives spread the word! If you hear about a food drive, a fundraiser, or a volunteer opportunity, share it with friends, family and on social media.
Looking into local initiatives on your city or town’s website. This could include a community garden, community garbage pick-up, or other opportunities to connect with people in your neighborhood.
Donating your car, truck, SUV, or Motorcycle to Homeless Cars by calling 1-833-465-7227 or by filling out a donation form to receive a tax receipt for the value of your vehicle.
Even small changes can make a difference in 2023. Whether it’s getting up a few minutes earlier or getting rid of your unwanted car for a good cause, we hope you have a happy, healthy, and productive 2023!
